Male reproductive system

Male reproductive system

  • A set of organs of the reproductive system that ensure the production of male germ cells and male sex hormones responsible for the formation and functioning of the body according to the male type.
  • Includes: testicles (gonads), ejaculatory ducts and related accessory glands, penis.
  • Organs of the male reproductive system are primary sexual characteristics of men, observed in each of them since their intrauterine formation.
  • During puberty, as a result of increased production of sex hormones, the male body acquires secondary sexual characteristics (male-type constitution and hair loss, predominance of muscle tissue over fat, lower voice timbre).

Testicle

  • A paired organ of the male reproductive system, where as a result of spermatogenesis, sperms are formed and male sex hormones are produced.
  • It reaches definitive differentiation at the end of puberty (by the age of 19–20).
  • The connective tissue capsule and the outgoing (septae) form a system of lobules containing convoluted tubules (total length — up to 300–400 m) and interstitium.
  • The wall of a convoluted tubule — is a complex, spatially organized system of cellular elements, including supporting cells (sustentocytes) and spermatogenic cells at different stages of development.
  • Interstitium (the space between the tubules) is formed by loose connective tissue, myocytes, blood capillaries, and interstitial endocrinocytes (synthesize testosterone).

Семявыносящие пути

  • A system of tubules through which sperms are transported from the seminiferous tubules to the urethra.
  • During the movement along the vas deferens, the biochemical and functional maturation of sperm occurs.
  • Are represented by intragonadal (straight tubules, rete testis ) and extrahonadal (excretory tubules, duct of the epididymis, vas deferens and ejaculatory ducts) departments.
  • Their walls, along with the epithelium, include loose connective tissue and smooth muscle cells.
