Назад Fusiform muscle cells in vascular wall-
Smooth muscle cells of a small artery. SEM image. 15,000X.

The sample has been prepared for scanning electron microscopy to visualize a layer of fusiform smooth muscle cells (myocytes) in the wall of a small artery. In small–sized vessels, a contraction of a single muscle cell layer may be sufficient to considerably reduce the lumen or even occlude it. Numerous grooves and ridges of the muscle cell surfaces indicate that the cells are moderately contracted.
