The specimen is a thin film of dermal connective tissue after fixation and extension followed by staining on the slide

Zooming in a little, you may distinguish:

• intercellular substance with a chaotic localization of fibers
• a considerable volume of amorphous component in the intercellular substance
• collagen fibers #1, #2, #3 forming moderately stained convoluted bundles of varying width
• elastic fibers #1, #2, #3 that are fine, intensively stained, and relatively straight
• connective tissue cells #1, #2, #3
• small blood vessels

Zooming in more, you may identify:

• fibroblasts #1, #2, #3 that are of branched or fusiform shape
• macrophages #1, #2, #3 that are marked by a peripherally indented cytoplasm with small vacuoles
• collagen fibers
• elastic fibers
• ground (amorphous) substance
