This interactive atlas combines a brief exposition of curriculum content in cytology and general histology with digitized microscopic and electron microscopic images of corresponding cells and tissues. The atlas is illustrated with panoramic photographs of histological sections made with WSI technology (whole slide imaging). It allows studying them via virtual microscopy. The atlas encourages students to organize their knowledge about structural and functional patterns of cells and tissues in the body during the self-study process.

This edition takes into consideration the requirements of the Russian state educational standards (FSES 3+). It is suitable for both full-time and distance training. The edition provides a mastering of curriculum content in histology according to the higher education curricula in such specialties as “Clinical Medicine”, “Health Science and Preventive medicine”, and “Theoretical Medicine”. The guide may also be relevant for PhD students and academic personnel at the departments of histology, cytology, and embryology, as well as for other specialists in medicine and biology (e.g., anatomy, biology, physiology, pathology and forensic medicine, clinical laboratory diagnosis).
